Roslyn Place History
Roslyn Place was built in 1914, and the 18 homes that line the street were built and rented over the following years. It took 6 months to cut more than 26,000 blocks for the road. In 1975, the road underwent a restoration project that saved the road from being paved over. Wooden block streets are known as Nicolson pavement. They were once a standard in the 1800s. As automobiles evolved, stronger road materials were used such as asphalt, bricks, and granite. Today, Roslyn Place is the only completed wooden street that is still usable in America!

The homes were built in the Colonial Revival and Georgian Revival architectural styles by Designer Thomas Rodd. Roslyn Place is one of he few examples of this architectural styles within Pittsburgh.

While strolling through the area, please be respectful when visiting. These homes are private residences. Do not trespass or cause a disturbance. Although a quick stop, this unique road configuration is worth the detour when in the Steel City.
